Who would have thought that your act of kindness and help for the poor would result to apparent legal case in the Philippines?
Ivana Alawi was in danger of facing a legal case for her most recent vlog. In her channel, the famous Pinay YouTube vlogger uploaded herself disguised as a beggar and pranking strangers on the streets for asking loose change and spare coins. Ivana would then reveal herself to the people who helped her and would multiply the amount they gave into a thousand.
Many netizens reacted positively and was inspired to the celebrity’s acts of charity and kindness to others. Although there are some who criticized her actions and her vlog, even to the extent of branding it as “ginagamit ang mahihirap” as apparently, Ivana seems to be exploiting the image of poor people and the poverty they are experiencing.
Although we know for sure that it was not the intention of the actress to exploit nor take advantage of the poverty experienced by others, many see it as a scheme because if the content she uploads on YouTube would be a huge hit and be trending in social media, we know for sure that her earnings would come cascading right into her bank account.
In other words and for some, Ivana is taking advantage of poor people and beggars to boost her earnings in YouTube at the expense of the people in the poverty line.
Because of her vlog, it is possible that Ivana Alawi may face charges in the law under the Presidential Decree No. 1563 or Anti-Mendicancy Law which prohibits begging or soliciting charitable donations by the poor and other religious organizations on the streets. In addition to that, giving alms to beggars is also prohibited by law.
Although the YouTube vlogger has not given any statement regarding this, many fans jumped into her defense as she appears to not be exploiting the poor people for her views. In fact, for others, they encourage many other people to watch Ivana’s vlogs to boost her views and give her more money so that she can help more people in the future.
