Meet the one of the most controversial monarchs in history, the king of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn.
Maha Vajiralongkorn, who has an official name King Rama X, is the 10th king of the Chakri dynasty in Thailand. He became king after his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, passed away in October 2016.
He was officially coronated in May 4, 2019 which was held at the Grand Palace in Bangkok. The coronation was so grand and it was reported that it had a whopping $31-million budget allotted for the celebration alone, which costs around 1.5 billion pesos!
The Royal procession lasted for more than six hours. The newly pronounced King paraded around the streets of Bangkok riding on his royal sedan chair which was made of gold and carried around by a total of sixteen soldiers!
The procession included more than 1,300 officials along with white elephants. The royal parade was attended and witnessed by more than a hundred thousand people and citizens of Thailand most especially in Bangkok.
Many Thai people celebrated the glorious moment of coronation and the start of a new dynasty. The king on his royal sedan were paraded and the passing of throne was celebrated as a new era of rule after the passing of the king.
The moment of procession was also attended and graced by Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the daughter of the King of Thailand, King Vajiralongkorn. People also witnessed and spotted the king’s new wife and queen, Queen Suthida.
The king of Thailand also faced many controversies and recently, he was spotted with his daughter on a photo uploaded online where he was seen wearing a white crop-top and his back filled with temporary tattoos which most netizens deemed inappropriate for a monarch.
