Famous Award Winning Actress Now A Full Pledged Nun


We, Filipinos, are blessed to have the freedom in our religion and our beliefs. We respect and usually practice a lot of our religious traditions even until today . There are also  people who choose to be a priest or a nun.

But would you believe that there is actually an award-winning actress who left all the fame in the show business industry because she  wanted to become a nun? She is no other than Chin-Chin Gutierrez. Chin-Chin’s real name is Maria Carminia Lourdes Cynthia Arnaldo Gutierrez. She is a 50-year-old former actress, environmentalist, and a Carmelite nun. She is one of the most renowned actresses of the ‘90s.



Some of her famous movies were “Maalaala Mo Kaya: The Movie” together with Aiko Melendez and Richard Gomez back in 1994, “Sa Aking Mga Kamay” in 1998 with Christopher De Leon and Aga Muhlach and “April, May and June” with Agot Isidro and Alma Concepcion in 1998. Most of her fans and supporters were shocked as she left show business industry for good and become a nun.

She may have challenges like most of us, as we all know that show business was never really easy. But instead of wanting all the fame and success I, she chooses a new path which she described as an “awakening”. She really wanted to serve God that is why she embraces such a deeper calling.

Chin-Chin is also the founding chair and president of the ecological foundation “Alaga LAHAT”, which she created in 2006. The organization is actually a member of the Eco-Waste Coalition. Aside from this group, she was also a founding member and officer of Mother Earth Foundation. As a vegetarian, she starred in an ad for PETA ASIA-PACIFIC in which she said that "fish are friends, not food".

She also believes that caring for our environment is also about our sacredness as individuals. Although, many Filipinos were saddened because she had already taken a new path, but some people also admire her for being true to herself and pursuing the things she really wanted.
