ABS-CBN Corporation is popularly known by the public as “ABS-CBN”. The Kapamilya network is a Filipino media and entertainment group based in Quezon City. It is the country’s largest entertainment and media conglomerate in terms of revenue, operating income, net income, assets, equity, market capitalization, and a number of employees. It was founded back in 1946 and had been a great part of every Filipino household ever since then.
Unfortunately, a few months ago the network has been dragged into a lot of controversies because of the expiration of their franchise renewal. According to some reports, the said franchise renewal has been delayed or blocked by the people in authority as the station has done something terrible to them in the recent election campaign. There are also some rumors that the Kapamilya network has been biased in delivering sensitive information to the public. It was just recently as the Philippines’ National Telecommunications Commission had a cease-and-desist order for the network because of its franchise expiration dated May 4, 2020.
The closure of the ABS-CBN network has been one of the most trending topics online in the past few days. A lot of netizens and even famous celebrities expressed their honest opinions and sincere support for the network. One of them is the boxing legend and Senator Manny Pacquiao who expressed his sincerest support to the network. The senator told NTC to keep their promise and give ABS-CBN their provisional permit. According to Senator Manny, the NTC should give the network a provisional authority to operate.
He added that the network had been a great help in the past decades in giving useful information to Filipino people. He agreed that the law should always be implemented at all costs and that the timing for the ABS-CBN closure was not really good as we are still fighting an invisible enemy until today. As they took down the network, they are also giving a lot of burdens to the 11,000 employees who will be jobless during this pandemic. Senator Manny expresses his support towards the network as he was also once a part of it and even until now he is always treated as a family by them.
